Important Anti-Aging Skin Care Ingredients

Peptides to Reduce Wrinkles

Peptides are small segments of amino acids formed when collagen breaks down. Human skin is comprised mostly of collagen, a protein that supports your skin and provides the foundation that gives it thickness. Younger people have ample amounts of collagen, which results in smooth, taut skin.  In contrast, older people have less collagen and their skin tends to become thinner and shows more wrinkles.

Collagen is destroyed by age and a number of environmental factors including sun damage, but is not completely replaced. As a result, smooth, young skin gradually becomes thin and increasingly wrinkled with time.

A product with a high concentration of peptides applied directly to your skin will be interpreted that it has lost collagen and will need to manufacture more of this substance.  The result is smoother, younger looking skin.

Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizer for Dry Skin

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a major component of the skin and occurs naturally in the body. Sufficient quantities of this moisturizer are necessary for tissue hydration and lubrication and proper functioning of skin cells.

Skin care products containing Hyaluronic Acid are often used with squalane to allow better penetration into the skin. Hyaluronic Acid is often promoted for its ability to reverse or retard the aging process.  Hyaluronic Acid is associated with youth because it occurs most abundantly in younger animals and humans. It is also found in high concentration in younger skin and in the fluid surrounding our joints.

As we age, environmental factors such as toxins and sunlight diminish your body's level of Hyaluronic Acid. Because decreasing levels of Hyaluronic Acid associated with the aging process correlate with wrinkled skin, effective anti-aging attempts to maintain a more youthful appearance by protecting and rejuvenating damaged skin tissue should include this important molecule.

Retinol for Wrinkles

Retinol is Vitamin A  in its most active and purest form. It is able to penetrate into deeper skin layers to work from underneath to reduce wrinkles and fine lines. Retinol also stimulates the production of collagen. It is related to Retin A.

Retinol accelerates cell regeneration and causes dead skin cells to slough away and be replaced by new cells. By stimulating collagen production, it also increases skin elasticity.

Retinol cream increases the production of cells in your skin's upper layer; this helps rejuvenate your skin. Consequently, your skin gradually looks younger in appearance. Retinol also works to help reduce unwanted pigmentation areas that result from historical exposure to excessive sunlight. It is very effective against acne and acne-caused scarring.

Exfoliation Products

Using a good exfoliation product on your skin will give you immediate results. Your skin will feel instantly smoother and softer.  This is the result of having removed the top layer of dull, dead skin cells that are part of the natural cell turnover process.

Exfoliating away the upper layer of dead skin cells helps prevent pores from becoming clogged, which will minimize acne and other skin blemishes.  Removing these dead cells will also minimize fine lines by removing the thin layer of skin that accentuates these lines.

If your skin type is dry, you should use an abrasive type of exfoliation product such as microdermabrasion cream. If you have oily skin, use a fruit acid or glycolic acid type of exfoliation product. And after any exfoliation procedure, be sure to use a quality skin moisturizer that contains hyaluronic acid.

Depending on the strength of the product and the tolerance of your skin, you can exfoliate either every day or 2-3 times per week. For example, a 10% glycolic acid product can be safely used on a daily basis. Microdermabrasion Cream should be used 1 to 2 times weekly. A 15% Fruit Acid exfoliation gel can be used 2 to 3 times per week.

To Reduce Wrinkles, A Routine Skin Care Regimen Is Essential

Exfoliation, Rejuvenation, and Moisturizing

The three main elements of proper anti-aging skin care are: Exfoliation, Rejuvenation, and Moisturizing. Exfoliation improves the youthful appearance of your skin by using the body’s amazing healing power. The direct application of peptides to your skin will make it think it has lost collagen and needs to produce more. This rejuvenates your skin. The third element of skin care is to moisturize with Hyaluronic Acid, which holds at least 1,000 times its weight in moisture.

You need to follow a careful regimen for younger looking, smoother and more radiant skin.

In the morning: wash your face, apply a Retinol or Peptide wrinkle cream, then your sunblock, then your makeup.

Evening: exfoliate your skin following instructions on the label, then apply a Retinol or Peptide wrinkle cream. Fruit acids are the most effective exfoliation creams. Recommended exfoliation products are Exfoliate Me™ glycolic acid cleanser, Exfoliation Plus+ Fruit Acid Gel™ or our Microdermabrasion Exfoliation Cream.

Note: For especially dry skin, use a Hyaluronic Acid cream or serum in the morning and and at night. For deep moisturizing, this should be done before applying your Peptide or Retinol cream.

For problem areas like dark circles under your eyes, we recommend a cream with Vitamin K, Hyaluronic Acid and Peptides.

When Should You Begin Your Anti-Aging Skin Care Routine?

It's never too early to start a good anti-aging and anti-wrinkle skin care routine. In your mid to late twenties, the moisture levels in your skin start to decline, making the use of good moisturizers essential to maintaining healthy skin.

During your thirties is when skin really starts to change, producing less collagen, which allows the first serious wrinkles to develop. At this age, a serious anti-aging skin care routine needs to be established to preserve healthy, youthful-looking skin well into the future.

If you are in your mid-thirties or older, it is essential that you start to use effective anti-aging products, such as those offered by Mango Madness Skin Care, as soon as possible. These include wrinkle creams, moisturizers and exfoliation products. The earlier you start, the easier it is to slow the effects of wrinkles and other signs of skin aging and make sure you look your best, allowing you to truly age gracefully.

Why is it important to moisturize your skin? Contrary to popular belief, moisturizers don’t necessarily add moisture to your skin, they absorb and seal in moisture. Another common misconception is that oily skin does not need hydration or protection from a moisturizer, particularly one containing hyaluronic acid. The opposite is true because dry skin sometimes overcompensates and produces more oil, giving the appearance that it isn’t dry – but oily skin can unknowingly be dehydrated. The best moisturizers on the market contain hyaluronic acid.

Wrinkles are a natural part of the aging process, but this process can be dramatically slowed or even reversed.  When skin ages and begins to lose its smoothness, the two primary mechanisms are loss of collagen and loss of elastin. Collagen contributes to the thickness of the skin, and since thicker skin wrinkles less easily, products that promote collagen production are helpful. Elastin, as the name implies, gives skin its youthful elasticity – that ability to snap back to its original shape. Mango Madness Skin Care offers several wrinkle creams that promote the health and abundance of collagen. The best wrinkle creams contain peptides or retinol, together with hyaluronic acid moisturizers. If you are buying a retinol cream, be sure it has the maximum concentration you can get without a prescription.

Exfoliation is an extremely important part of smart skin care. Exfoliation has three primary benefits. First, by removing the outer layer of dead skin cells, your skin will immediately become smoother after using a quality exfoliation product that contains Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) or Fruit Acids, including glycolic or lactic acid. Secondly, exfoliation stimulates the skin to produce new skin cells, thus using the body’s own healing powers to bring fresh, young cells to the surface of your skin. Thirdly, by removing the outer layer of dead cells, any moisturizer or wrinkle cream product you apply afterward is more easily absorbed into your skin.

The Importance of Using Anti-Aging Products for Your Body as well as Your Face

It's not just your face that is exposed to ultraviolet light, free radicals and environmental pollutants that cause skin aging. Wrinkled hands, a crepey décolletage and sunspots on your arms and legs are just as instantly aging as wrinkles on the face, yet most women only use anti-aging products for facial skin care. If you want to maintain a youthful appearance and look younger than your age, there is no point in having a youthful face but a body that gives away your real age.

Anti-aging products for your body are particularly important if you have a history of sun tanning or used tanning beds, as the ultraviolet light will have already done considerable damage to your skin.

Mango Madness Skin Care is proud to offer a full line of anti-aging products for use on the body. First, we have Sugar Body Scrubs, which use natural sugar to gently exfoliate the skin, removing dead skin cells, dirt and toxins. Our Body Scrubs should be followed with one of our Tropical Body Butters, which contain Shea butter and cocoa butter to moisturize and soften, together with vitamins C and E and green tea to fight free radicals and other harmful oxidants.

Finally, our Tan Towel Self-Tanning Towelettes allow you to achieve a healthy glow without exposure to dangerous ultraviolet light. You don't have to forgo a tan to be safe and preserve wrinkle-free skin; using a Sugar Body Scrub followed by a Tropical Body Butter and Tan Towel will give you beautifully smooth, glowing, tanned skin that won't prematurely age and you can be proud of, whatever your real age!

Potentially harmful ingredients you won't find in Mango Madness Skin Care products

Parabens
Parabens are a group of inexpensive synthetic chemicals used in skin care and cosmetic products to prevent bacterial growth and spoilage. Since more than 90% of cosmetic and skin care products contain parabens, most women are exposed to them many times a day without even realizing it.

Until recently, parabens were thought to be perfectly safe. However, a 2006 study published in the medical journal Toxicology has raised numerous questions regarding the potentially harmful effects of parabens. In particular, methylparaben has been found to increase skin aging in a process accelerated by ultraviolet light exposure.  The authors of the study wrote, “These results indicate that methylparaben, which has been considered a safe preservative in cosmetics, may have harmful effects on human skin when exposed to sunlight.” Ironically, applying an anti-aging cream containing methylparaben before going outside in the morning could therefore actually speed up skin aging, instead of slowing it.

There is great concern about the potential role of parabens in womens’ health issues.  It is known that parabens have effects on estrogen levels, but further research is necessary to establish their exact link to serious health risks.

It is undeniable that more research is needed into parabens' effects on the skin and body, and because of this, their use in cosmetics remains controversial. However, why would you expose yourself to potentially toxic chemicals when you don't have to?

Since most skin care products sit on the surface of the skin, allowing any parabens to be absorbed, inclusion of parabens in these products is particularly risky. The only way to be sure you are protected from the toxic effects of parabens is to ensure that your anti-aging skin care products do not contain them. Mango Madness Skin Care products are guaranteed to be paraben-free.

Fillers and extenders
Skin care companies often pack their products full of fillers and extenders, in order to use the least amount possible of more expensive, active ingredients that would actually benefit your skin.

Although many companies advertise new wonder ingredients and great results of their wrinkle creams, when you examine the ingredient list, you'll probably find that most of the ingredients are cheap fillers and extenders, with the active ingredient buried at the end of the list, in such a small quantity as to be incapable of producing the claimed results. However, since skin care companies usually use the longest, most complicated names for their fillers and extenders, you practically need a chemistry degree to be able to understand the ingredient list and distinguish what's useful and what's not.

At Mango Madness Skin Care, we are committed to including only active, beneficial ingredients in our products, and we never use fillers and extenders to bulk up our products. We want you to understand exactly what is in your skin care products, and have created our skin care ingredient glossary so you know exactly what's in your creams.

Fragrances
Fragrances are the most common cause of allergic contact dermatitis after application of a skin care product. Although many people don't realize they can be irritating and enjoy their scents, if your skin has an allergic reaction you can suffer a rash, bumps and blistering. Some people may also have an allergic reaction from inhaling the fragrance.

Because there are more than 200 chemical fragrances in use, and product labels only have to state 'Fragrance,' there is no way of knowing to which you are allergic or avoiding it in future.

Mango Madness Skin Care facial products never contain fragrance, so you can be assured you will never suffer a fragrance-related allergic reaction while enjoying our products.
