Directions: Use every night after washing your face. Goes well with the Rose Hip Seed Oil cleanser. If you are going to be using an exfoliator with this product, we recommend our Microdermabrasion Cream. You should not use a glycolic or alpha hydroxy (fruit) acid with ReNew Youth™ as this may cause dryness. In the morning, you should use either Maximum Moisture™ or Peptide 6™.
Most people tolerate ReNew Youth™ cream well without any problem even though it is the strongest non-prescription (over the counter) concentration available (1%). This is because it is formulated to be non-irritating. You should use a sunblock if you use ReNew Youth™ during the daytime. If you are pregnant or may become pregnant, you should not use any Vitamin A products. If this is a concern or you have sensitive skin, we recommend Peptide 6™ wrinkle cream.
What is Retinol?
This wrinkle fighting ingredient is a retinoid that is a derivative of a vitamin A. It is effective in building collagen, cleaning out pores, minimizing fine lines and increasing the rate of cell turnover. It can moderate skin discoloration and give you smoother skin. With regular use, you may see a reduction in wrinkles within a month.The first retinoid to be approved by the Food & Drug Administration was an anti-acne product with the brand name name Tretinoin in the 1960s, available only by prescription. Doctors quickly observed that persons who were treated with tretinoin rexperienced not just fewer acne problems, but also exhibited smoother, less wrinkled skin.
Today, however, you do not have to see your dermatologist to obtain and use an effective retinoid for smoother skin and fewer wrinkles. Retinol is a non-prescription retinoid that can give you satisfying wrinkle reduction results. Retinol is converted to retinoic acid on the surface of your skin; retinoic acid is the form that produces the benefits. However, in the conversion process, it loses some of its effectiveness. For this reason, you need to purchase as potent as possible a formulation of retinol. The maximum permitted concentration of over the counter retinol is 1,000,000 International Units; this is approximately 1%. Retinol does not act as quickly as its prescription counterpart, so more time is needed. The benefit, on the other hand, is that it is much less expensive than a doctor's visit and prescription pricing, and is more gentle on your skin.
One of the most prevalent misconceptions about retinol is that it will cause your skin to become overly sensitive to sunlight and increase the chance of sunburn. This misconception was probably caused by the fact that it can degrade when exposed to direct sunlight, so it was advised to avoid sun exposure when using a retinol cream. Many users incorrectly interpreted this as a risk that using retinol would increase the skin's sun sensitivity, but such is not the case.
Some users are concerned that before the retinol can work to give you smoother skin, your skin will look worse before it looks better. While it is true that any retinoid can cause dryness, even some flaking, you can and should use a retinol product that is formulated with moisturizers such as hyaluronic acid. ReNew Youth™ is formulated with Jojoba Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil, Squalane, and Hyaluronic Acid.
Because it has built-in moisturizers and soothing oils, you can begin using Renew Youth wrinkle cream every night; if you experience excessive flaking, decrease to every other night until your skin becomes acclimated. When purchasing a retinol product, be sure it comes in an airless pump and keep it stored in a dark area such as your medicine cabinet. As a cautionary note, if you are pregnant or may become so, or are nursing, avoid any vitamin A derivative, including retinoids. And as always, whether or not you are using retinoids, always wear your sunblock.
