Important Skin Care Product Ingredients
Peptides to Reduce Wrinkles
Peptides are small segments of amino acids formed when collagen breaks down. Human skin is comprised mostly of collagen, a protein that supports your skin and provides its foundation and firmness. Younger people have ample collagen, characterized by firm, healthy-looking skin. In contrast, in later years, we lose collagen; skin begins to lose its thickness, resiliency and smoothness. Collagen is destroyed by time and a number of environmental factors including sun damage.A product with a high concentration of peptides used on your skin will be interpreted that it has lost collagen and must regenerate it. The result is smoother, younger looking skin - wrinkles are reduced.
Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizer for Dry Skin
Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a major component of the skin and is produced by our bodies. Sufficient quantities of this moisturizer are necessary for tissue hydration and lubrication and proper functioning of skin cells. As we age, environmental factors such as toxins and sunlight diminish your body's level of Hyaluronic Acid. Because decreasing concentrations of Hyaluronic Acid associated with the aging process occurs simultaneously with a loss of skin smoothness and firmness, beneficial anti-aging practices to maintain younger looking skin by protecting and rejuvenating damaged skin tissue should include hyaluronic acid.
Skincare products containing Hyaluronic Acid are often used with squalane to allow better penetration into the skin. Hyaluronic Acid is often promoted for its ability to reverse or retard the aging process. Hyaluronic Acid is associated with youth because it occurs most abundantly in younger animals and humans. It is also found in high concentration in younger skin and in the fluid surrounding our joints.
Retinol for Wrinkles
Retinol is Vitamin A in its most active and purest form. It is able to migrate to deeper skin layers to work from underneath to reduce wrinkles and fine lines. Retinol also stimulates the production of collagen. It is related to Retin A.Retinol accelerates cell regeneration and causes dead skin cells to slough away and be replaced by new cells. By stimulating collagen production, it also increases skin elasticity.
Retinol cream increases the production of cells in your skin's upper layer; this helps rejuvenate your skin. Consequently, your skin gradually looks younger in appearance. Retinol also works to help reduce unwanted pigmentation areas that result from historical exposure to excessive sunlight. It is very effective against acne and acne-caused scarring.
The Importance of Using Anti-Aging Products for Your Body as well as Your Face
It's not just your face that is exposed to ultraviolet light, free radicals and environmental pollutants that cause skin aging. Wrinkled hands, a crepey décolletage and sunspots on your arms and legs are just as instantly aging as wrinkles on the face, yet most women only use anti-aging cremes for facial skin care. If you want to maintain a youthful appearance and look younger than your age, there is no point in having a youthful face but a body that gives away your real age.Anti-aging products for your body are particularly important if you have a history of sun tanning or used tanning beds, as the ultraviolet light will have already done considerable damage to your skin.
Our paraben-free sunless tanning lotion allows you to achieve a healthy glow without exposure to dangerous ultraviolet light. You don't have to forgo a tan to be safe and preserve wrinkle-free skin; using a Sugar Body Scrub followed by Tan-Fan™ self tanner will give you beautifully smooth, glowing, tanned skin that won't prematurely age and you can be proud of, whatever your real age!
Potentially harmful ingredients you won't find in Mango Madness Skin Care products
Parabens
Parabens are a group of inexpensive synthetic chemicals used in skin care and cosmetic products to prevent bacterial growth and spoilage. Since more than 90% of cosmetic and skin care products contain parabens, most women are exposed to them many times a day without even realizing it.
Until recently, parabens were thought to be perfectly safe. However, a 2006 study published in the medical journal Toxicology has raised numerous questions regarding the potential paraben risk. In particular, methylparaben has been found to increase skin aging when accelerated by ultraviolet light exposure. The authors of the study wrote, “These results indicate that methylparaben, which has been considered a safe preservative in cosmetics, may have harmful effects on human skin when exposed to sunlight.” Ironically, applying an anti-aging cream containing methylparaben before going outside in the morning could therefore actually speed up skin aging, instead of slowing it.
There is great concern about the potential role of parabens in womens’ health issues. It is known that parabens have effects on estrogen levels, but further research is necessary to establish their exact link to serious health risks.
It is undeniable that more research is needed into parabens' effects on the skin and body, and because of this, their use in cosmetics remains controversial. However, why would you expose yourself to potentially toxic chemicals when you don't have to?
Since most skin care products sit on the surface of the skin, allowing any parabens to be absorbed, inclusion of parabens in these products is particularly risky. The only way to be sure you are protected from the toxic effects of parabens is to ensure that your anti-aging skin care products do not contain them. Mango Madness Skin Care products are guaranteed to be paraben-free.
Fillers and extenders
Many manudacturers often pack their products full of fillers and extenders, in order to use the least amount possible of more expensive, active ingredients that would actually benefit your skin.
Although many companies advertise new wonder ingredients and great results of their wrinkle creams, when you examine the ingredient list, you'll probably find that most of the ingredients are cheap fillers and extenders, with the active ingredient buried at the end of the list, in such a small quantity as to be incapable of producing the claimed results. However, since skin care companies usually use the longest, most complicated names for their fillers and extenders, you practically need a chemistry degree to be able to understand the ingredient list and distinguish what's useful and what's not.
At Mango Madness Skin Care, we formulate our products using only active, beneficial ingredients. We do not include fillers or extenders to bulk up our products. We want you to understand exactly what is in the products you are purchasing, and have created our skin care ingredient glossary so you know exactly what's in your creams.
Fragrances
Fragrances are the most common cause of allergic contact dermatitis after application of a skin care product. Although many people don't realize they can be irritating and enjoy their scents, if your skin has an allergic reaction you can suffer a rash, bumps and blistering. Some people may also have an allergic reaction from inhaling the fragrance.
Because there are more than 200 chemical fragrances in use, and product labels only have to state 'Fragrance,' there is no way of knowing to which you are allergic or avoiding it in future.
Mango Madness Skin Care facial products never contain fragrance, so you can be assured you will never suffer a fragrance-related allergic reaction while enjoying our products.
What is Retinol?
This wrinkle fighting ingredient is a retinoid that is a derivative of a vitamin A. It is effective in building collagen, cleaning out pores, minimizing fine lines and increasing the rate of cell turnover. It can moderate skin discoloration and give you smoother skin. With regular use, you may see a reduction in wrinkles within a month. The first retinoid to be approved by the Food & Drug Administration was an anti-acne product with the brand name name Tretinoin in the 1960s, available only by prescription. Doctors quickly observed that persons who were treated with tretinoin rexperienced not just fewer acne problems, but also exhibited smoother, less wrinkled skin.
Today, however, you do not have to see your dermatologist to obtain and use an effective retinoid for smoother skin and fewer wrinkles. Retinol is a non-prescription retinoid that can give you satisfying wrinkle reduction results. Retinol is converted to retinoic acid on the surface of your skin; retinoic acid is the form that produces the benefits. However, in the conversion process, it loses some of its effectiveness. For this reason, you need to purchase as potent as possible a formulation of retinol. The maximum permitted concentration of over the counter retinol is 1,000,000 International Units; this is approximately 1%. Retinol does not act as quickly as its prescription counterpart, so more time is needed. The benefit, on the other hand, is that it is much less expensive than a doctor's visit and prescription pricing, and is more gentle on your skin.
One of the most prevalent misconceptions about retinol is that it will cause your skin to become overly sensitive to sunlight and increase the chance of sunburn. This misconception was probably caused by the fact that it can degrade when exposed to direct sunlight, so it was advised to avoid sun exposure when using a retinol cream. Many users incorrectly interpreted this as a risk that using retinol would increase the skin's sun sensitivity, but such is not the case.
Some users are concerned that before the retinol can work to give you smoother skin, your skin will look worse before it looks better. While it is true that any retinoid can cause dryness, even some flaking, you can and should use a retinol product that is formulated with moisturizers such as hyaluronic acid. ReNew Youth™ is formulated with Jojoba Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil, Squalane, and Hyaluronic Acid.
Because it has built-in moisturizers and soothing oils, you can begin using Renew Youth wrinkle cream every night; if you experience excessive flaking, decrease to every other night until your skin becomes acclimated. When purchasing a retinol product, be sure it comes in an airless pump and keep it stored in a dark area such as your medicine cabinet. As a cautionary note, if you are pregnant or may become so, or are nursing, avoid any vitamin A derivative, including retinoids. And as always, whether or not you are using retinoids, always wear your sunblock.
Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a naturally produced substance that exists in substantial amounts in young skin in humans and other mammals. It is also found in other parts of the body including the eye and skeletal joints. HA was first synthesized in a laboratory setting in the 1950s. Over time, free radicals from exposure to sunlight and environmental toxins break down HA in our skin. For this reason, it is important to replace this important anti-aging substance. The special properties of HA make it an ideal moisturizer for dry skin because it holds more 1,000 times its weight in moisture; this is more than any naturally occurring substance. Its special hydrating properties will make your skin smoother, softer and less wrinkle prone.Hyaluronic Acid is a primary constituent in the area surrounding rapidly growing skin cells and plays an important role in the reduction or elimination of scars and healing of wounds. For this reason, HA is produced in substantial quantities during wound healing. Besides providing structural wound support, HA has been demonstrated in animal models to speed up repair of damaged skin; it is also used to treat chronic skin ulcerations. HA increases the production of special signal proteins and facilitates the movement of fibroblast cells in damaged tissue. Fetal tissues, which heal amazingly rapidly and smoothly, contain substantial amounts of HA; the decreasing HA content in older skin prevents it from healing.
Hyaluronic Acid has been advertised for its ability to stop the skin aging process; it is sometimes referred to as the Fountain of Youth for skin.
