Squalane

Widely used in finer cosmetics, moisturizers and wrinkle creams, squalane is now typically derived from plant sources such as olive oil. Once commonly derived from shark liver oil, environmentally responsible skin care companies, including Mango Madness Skin Care, use only vegetable derived sources.

Because of its small molecule size, squalane penetrates the skin readily and has no greasy feeling. And because it is chemically similar to the skin's own oil, sebum, it is a very compatible and effective anti-aging skin moisturizer and conditioner. Squalane is the hydrogenated version of squalene and is therefore less likely to degrade from oxidation.

Its ability to penetrate the skin efficiently promotes the creation of new skin cells and retards bacterial growth.

For these reasons, squalane is a valuable compound for minimizing the aging process of skin. It is produced naturally in our bodies in small quantities, especially in our youth. As we age, however, its production decreases, making it important to replenish squalane as we get older by applying it to our skin in topical preparations.
