September is A Funny Month

It’s true, isn’t it? September is the time of the year when summer vacation is over and boats get put in dry dock or detailed and trailered into the shelter. Late summer storms gather on the East coast, tornados in the Midwest, and El Nino in the West. If you have children at home it is that hectic time for back to school madness. New sports uniforms, band equpment, bus schedules, paper, pens and clothes, clothes, clothes. It is a time of traditional change when sweaters go to the cleaners to be fluffed up for the Fall chill and bathing suits and sandals go on the shelf.

This also might be the time of year when you switch your facial routine as well. Many people use a lighter daytime moisturizer during the summer. (Like our deliciously silky Mango Miracle day cream.) Or change out their super moisturizing night serum for a night repair cream that can withstand the effects of central heating on your face at night. Nocturne is perfect for that.

Finally, it is a great time to do a thorough cleansing or micro dermabrasion and start fresh on your skin care so that your skin does not dry out over the winter months. Our special Micro Dermabrasion cream is the simple answer to an expensive spa exfoliation treatment. Exfoliating crystals gently but thoroughly remove the top rough layer of dead skin cells and open your pores so they can breathe at last. The moisturizing cream penetrates into the fresh layer of skin cells and protects and moisturizes. The result is absolutely beautiful and smooth skin and a fresh clean feeling as you enjoy this transitional month. The microdermabrasion will take care of minor imperfections and color unevenness and help with blemishes as it diminishes fine lines on your forehead and around your mouth. You will feel the results immediately and will notice that moisturizer goes on and sinks in while makeup looks smoother and more natural.

Treat yourself to this spa-at-home exfoliating experience as an end of summer treat. You deserve it!

I’ve Never Exfoliated – Should I?

facial_creamThe simple answer is, “Yes!” You should exfoliate on a regular basis for the healthiest and best looking skin you can have from head to toe. You don’t have to spend a lot of money at a medical spa having a chemical peel, or at a more “experiential” establishment having a special seaweed scrub. But you really should take the time to exfoliate. Let’s talk about the simplicity of exfoliating and the benefits.

First, if you use a loofah or other gently scrubbing body product on your skin when you shower you are already exfoliating. What the loofah does is very basic. It scrubs off both surface dirt and dead skin without using any chemicals or harsh abrasives. The result is easy to see. Dead skin and surface matter can dull and clog the pores of your skin. Lotions and moisturizers you apply may simply sink into the dead skin cells and never penetrate to the cells beneath. Cleansers was away some surface grime but do not take away much.

You know how bad dead skin can look if you’ve ever given your heels or elbows a serious inspection. A pumice stone or sugar scrub can help clean away much of that flaky skin and a good moisturizer will restore the suppleness and softness that you’d prefer to see. But that just takes care of your body. What about your face?

On your face a loofah would be too rough. You don’t want anything scraping at that delicate surface! So you use a basic exfoliating gel or exfoliating crystals to gently take away the dead skin from the top layer of your skin. Suddenly, your face feels cleaner and looks glowing and healthy! Your pores are open and your moisturizer soaks right in. Makeup goes on more easily. And best of all, the stimulation your skin receives promotes healing and renewal.

Two of our favorite exfoliating products are Microdermabrasion™ Exfoliating Cream with micro-crystals and Exfoliation Plus+™ with AHA fruit acid gel. Both thoroughly but gently clean your face and come with our famous 30-day moneyback guarantee! There’s no risk to try your first exfoliation and we believe you will be thrilled with the results.

Aggravating Acne

It doesn’t matter what age you are, acne is embarrassing and unsightly. You dread waking up with pimples when you are a teenager, and it is even more frustrating when you are in your thirties or older. What causes this?

facial-cleanserThere are many causes of acne and breakouts in older skin. One of them is stress which we all struggle with. Another is that we have larger pores when we age and our skin is affected by a variety of factors going on in our lives. One easy thing we can do for occasional breakouts is use a treatment involving glycolic acid. Glycolic acid is part of many skin cleaning and exfoliation strategies but it does more than clean your skin thoroughly. It also has anti-bacterial properties which can help break the cycle of breakouts and keep our skin lovely and free of the bacteria that can trigger a breakout.

What else does glycolic acid do for you?

  • Minimizes pores
  • Exfoliates, removing dead skin cells
  • Encourages the production of collagen.

Why would you buy Mango Madness Skin Care’s Exfoliate Me™ Glycolic Facial Cleanser? The reasons are simple:

  • A name you can trust,
  • Paraben-free
  • Cruelty Free
  • Effective against acne and rough skin

Can Your Face Be Too Clean?

The simple answer is yes. The complicated explanation is easier than you would think to understand so let’s tackle the subject of having a clean face one point at a time. First, your body was created to protect itself with a covering of a wonderful organ called skin. That skin covers every inch of you and is particularly delicate on your face.

The skin has its own system of protection and renewal, and it relies on natural oils to protect it and keep it supple. For renewal, the skin sloughs off dead skin cells and makes fresh new ones. So why do we clean it at all? First, because it gets dirty. We have airborne pollutants, food, makeup, and daily grime all piling up on our skin. We spray our hair with hair spray, our throat with perfume, and the face gets some of that as well.

So what’s wrong with scrubbing it? Everything! You want to take off that first layer of soil, and you want to remove dead skin cells but most bar and soft soaps contain SLS which is a degreaser used in car washes! What does that do? It lathers right up and takes the oil right off of your skin cells weakening their protection against the elements and drying them! To add to the skin damage, many soaps brag about being anti-bacterial and use alcohol (a drying agent) or triclosan (a potential toxin, endocrine disrupter, and allergan). Both of these ingredients irritate your skin and make it rougher. Then, to further disturb the delicate balance of your skin, many commercial soaps contain parabens as preservatives which can age your skin and mimic female hormones causing potential threats to your health.

So what should you do? Only us a soap that is free of parabens, triclosan, alcohol, and SLS. Apply it gently and do NOT scrub your skin. If you are exfoliating use a scrub with microbeads or AHA to do it gently and naturally, not be applying more pressure to a wash cloth. The results of treating your skin gently are phenomenal. Your skin will look more natural, have a more even skin tone, and break out less often. If you’d like a good cleanser or exfoliator, look no more! We have them right here!

Out with the Old, in with the New

Did you know? Exfoliating encourages your skin to renew and regenerate. That’s right, doing something simple like exfoliating can help your skin grow more beautiful. Not just because you have scrubbed away the dull dry skin cells, but also because by doing that you have exposed the next layer of skin to the world and encouraged the production of more collagen and more skin cells.

And the good news is, you have many options open to you on how you exfoliate. Many people like the method that involves small abrasive particles. Our Oh Honey Amber and Honey scrub falls into that category. Many other people prefer our all organic Glycolic Acid gel which gently chemically peels away the dry, lifeless skin cells with a formula derived from pure, natural, organic sugar cane. It leaves your skin feeling fresh and delicious. It’s gentle enough to use regularly, and effective enough that we recommend it to our customers that have acne.

What can it do for you? It can:

  • help minimize age spots and produce a more even skin tone
  • reduce wrinkles by removing dry skin
  • build collagen
  • reduce acne so you feel more competent
  • assist makeup and sun screen to go on more evenly

Additionally, once you exfoliate your skin is better able to absorb and utilize the beneficial ingredients in eye cream, face cream, and moisturizers. You will find your make-up glides right on with no caking or clogging your pores.

If you have any doubts, visit our product page and read the customer reviews and the peer reviews. We are so sure you will like it that we offer a 90-day money-back satisfaction guarantee to encourage you to purchase. What are you waiting for? Order today and get your bottle of Exfoliate Me and see how beautiful your skin can be! (And remember, our products are always Paraben free!)

Renewing and Refreshing Your Skin

You know all the reasons that you should exfoliate:

  • Dead skin cells look dull, feel rough.
  • Dead skin cells block applied hydration and nutrients from reaching live skin cells.
  • Dead skin cells make cosmetics go on unevenly.

There are many more and I could probably fill this blog with what a nuisance dead skin cells are but that is not the purpose of my writing today. I’d like to focus instead on the ways we choose to remove dead skin cells and the relative merits of some methods. For one thing, many people do not know what is in a product if it is called an exfoliant or exfoliator. And that is because all that means is that it removes the dead skin cells. It doesn’t tell you in the name how it does it.

There are a lot of ways. Some of the most common are the put-on-peel-off masks. Those basically adhere to your skin and when you pull them off you take off a layer of dead skin. Then there are the abrasives. These work exactly like a gentle sandpaper. They have tiny beads, crystals, or other material in the cream and you apply it to your skin to remove the imperfections.

Then there are the peels. These can be formulated from fruit acids or various chemicals that peel away the top layer of skin. Some of these procedures have to be done in a doctor’s office and take weeks to heal. The gentler ones, made with Alpha Hydroxy Acid, are a natural fruit gel that smooth on and work by dissolving away the dull, dry cells and revealing the newer skin beneath. This simple method is safe to use at home and will not leave your skin red and irritated.

Our best AHA peel is made with 15% fruit acid gel and you only have to apply it, wait 2-3 minutes, and rinse off. Pat your face dry and apply your favorite moisturizer and your skin is fresh, smooth, and glowing!

Spring Forward

We are not quite there yet but I am already dreaming of Spring. I can’t wait to wear light dresses, sandals, and shed all of these heavy clothes that I’ve been burdened with throughout the Winter months. I know we are not quite to Spring yet but that doesn’t mean I can’t look ahead!

The first plan I have for Spring is to do a thorough exfoliation of my skin, and for that I have a number of choices. I could go to a medical spa for a serious peel but that makes me nervous. I’d rather use a gentler product and not risk damaging my skin. Right now my choices are:

Oh Honey, Amber Facial Scrub – This one really appeals to me. I love the little amber exfoliating crystals and the honey and vanilla cleansing and moisturizing scrub just makes it all seem so luxurious and enjoyable. The jar is good for about 40 exfoliation treatments so it is a great buy as well!

Or, I could use Exfoliate Me™ Glycolic Facial Cleanser, a preparation that uses glycolic acid to gently remove dead skin cells and promote and encourage growth of new cells. You can use it occasionally, or even every day as part of your regimen. It works on all skin types and is a superior product if you are dealing with discolorations and unevenness in skin color, or blemishes from acne.

My favorite to work on my skin after a long winter has always been the Microdermabrasion Exfoliating Cream. Gently abrasive crystals go to work scrubbing your skin, while the moisturizing effects of Shea Butter, Vitamin E, Grapeseed Extract and Jojoba Oil smooth away any imperfections or fine wrinkles. What a feeling! Afterwards, my skin feels as if I’ve had a spa treatment and makeup just glides on!

Whichever one you choose, make sure it is paraben-free, cruelty-free, and contains no artificial fragrances or formaldehyde products. Treat your skin with love and you’ll look radiant!

Chemical Peels vs Exfoliation, What Should I Do?

Many women are concerned about a variety of surface skin conditions that respond well to peels or exfoliating gels or scrubs.  But is there a way to determine which is right for your skin?  To start with, it is helpful to know what a chemical peel is.  In a peel a doctor will use a chemical formula on your face which causes the skin to blister up and then to slough off.  When the face heals, the resulting skin is fragile and needs special care, but is generally free of many of the original fine lines and discoloration caused by age.  The doctor will often use pain medication during and after, and recovery depends on how deep a peel was done.  There are side effects to be considered and these treatments are not recommended for everyone.

In an exfoliation treatment, there are usually products you can safely use at home.  The concept is similar but more gentle:  Old dead skin is scrubbed off or lifted off by a gel, and new fresh skin underneath will have reduced fine lines and discoloration.  You may be using a microdermabrasion method, an AHA gel, or a gentle scrub to remove older skin cells so new fresh skin can shine through:

The advantages to exfoliation at home are numerous:

  • Lower risk of infection, injury or side effects
  • No long recovery
  • Lower costs
  • No need for pain medication or a doctor or medical spa to administer

The most important thing to know is that regularly exfoliating and using a good moisturizer achieves excellent results over time because you are encouraging your skin to rejuvenate and the newer skin is lighter, smoother and less lined.

Please note:  neither method is effective with deep lines or heavy scarring.

There was a time when only the doctor could get really good results on mature skin but skin care science has moved beyond that.  You can make your own choices about treatments and then see the beautiful results for yourself!

See which exfoliation method is right for you!  Choose an exfoliating product.

Turn Back Time

You look in the mirror one day and you just aren’t satisfied.  Maybe you see some subtle age spots or discoloration; or maybe the fine lines and wrinkles just seem overwhelming.  Perhaps the solution would be to go to a health spa and have them use dermabrasion techniques to take off the top layer of skin. Or, maybe you’ll consider going to a cosmetic surgeon for a chemical peel.  That can be painful and involve an extended healing process before your skin looks normal again.

But it is worth it, isn’t it?  Both the health spa and the medical spa are expensive but they are professionals and you really want to get rid of your crow’s feet.  So you’ll spend the money, and let them pour chemicals on your skin or do the facial equivalent of sandblasting.

Stop!  Put your money back in your pocket and don’t keep subjecting your sensitive skin to harsh treatments just to turn back the clock.  Care for your skin gently, naturally, right in your own home, and spend the money you have saved on something else you want.  Your face will thank you for it.

What am I talking about?  There is a gentle, yet effective, exfoliating scrub you can use in the comfort of your own home that will do a beautiful job on your skin –  Mango Madness Oh Honey!
