Water, Water, Everywhere!

Here’s a question that gets asked occasionally and you may have wondered about it yourself. Why do we need a moisturizer other than water? Seriously, isn’t pure water about as moist as it gets?  It sure is! But getting it in to your skin cells takes action on a cellular level. And holding it there takes more action.

First, let’s talk about what water is and isn’t. It is a universal solvent. That means that things dissolve in it. That gives water its usefulness in washing. It also evaporates which means that it has cooling properties. You know if it is a chilly day and you are caught in the rain you are twice as cold. It is also what your skin, and indeed your entire body are made of. Without water you simply cannot exist.

But water appears in your skin cells under very specific conditions. Look at a baby. Those fat little cheeks and smooth, silky skin. A baby’s body is born with the ability to hold water and fats so that as the body grows the skin can grow with it. The skin stays healthy and creates a barrier that protects the baby’s body from the incursion of dirt and germs.

As we get older, the processes in skin cells that keep water in place and skin smooth begin to break down. One of the things your body loses is hyaluronic acid. By using a moisturizer that has significant hyaluronic acid, your skin cells are able to use the same processes to retain moisture and boost collagen production that they would do naturally when you were younger. So the secret to hanging on to moisture in your skin is not to pour water on it from the outside, but to use a moisturizer that helps hydrate from the inside by penetrating the skin and promoting natural processes. That makes more sense!

7 Tips to Silky, Well-Moisturized Skin

We all think we know how to moisturize, but we each have our own way of doing things. Some are habit, some are learned from unreliable sources. The wonderful fact is, there are ways to moisturize that are more effective at delivering the moisture to your skin. So let’s look at some of the things we can do to get the best skin ever.

  1. Use the mildest cleanser. Whether you are washing your face, your body, your toes, harsh soaps just don’t cut it. Use a mild cleanser and make sure it does not contain SLS.
  2. Short is better than long. Don’t spend a long time in the shower or bath. You don’t have to zip through it, but waiting until your finger-tips wrinkle is a no-no.
  3. Warm is better than hot. The pores of your skin open in warm water, but the hotter the water is the more natural oils are stripped off of your body.
  4. Use a soft cloth, never scrub your skin. If you are washing your face wash gently and only exfoliate once a week or even once every two weeks. If you scrub or overclean your face or body you risk irritating your skin.
  5. Moisturize within 2-3 minutes of washing your face or taking a shower. You want to provide a source of moisture while the pores are still open and your skin is freshly clean.
  6. Only use a paraben-free moisturizing cream or lotion. Parabens can age your skin and are associated with possible serious health risks. They are found in many skin care products but should be avoided at all costs.
  7. Dab on a little extra moisturizer in areas that get particularly dry or are exposed to the sun and environment more.

It’s that simple. You don’t have to buy a lot of different expensive products. The must have products are a cleanser and a moisturizer. Everything else is icing on the cake!

We have a wonderful assortment of cleansers and moisturizers, all paraben-free, at www.mangomadnessskincare.com silky-smooth-skin

July Delivers a Jolt of Heat

How does a woman stay cool in the summer and still protect her skin? Perhaps a complete Bedouin outfit with layers of fabric while hiding inside an air-conditioned building would do it?!

It’s not easy but if you follow some simple rules you will be able to keep your skin safe and your body as comfortable as possible. Living in Florida for years gives you some pointers to go by! Here are the things we have found work:

  • Avoid going out of doors between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Those are the hottest times of the day when the sun is right overhead glaring down on you. These are the times you will feel like a baked potato and your skin will be exposed to the greatest amount of UVA and UVB rays shining down.
  • Wear light colors and layer light fabrics covering as much of your body as you are comfortable with. Lightweight linen slacks, a flowing summery skirt, a white overshirt with a little tank underneath, will all help you feel less heavy, less confined. Your skin needs to breathe in order to stay cool so now is the time for the lightest, loosest fabrics.
  • We’ve said it before in many places but it bears repeating here: Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water and lighter fruit juice infused drinks. Avoid alcohol and / or caffeine as both can make you feel flushed and hotter.

After you’ve been out in the summer heat, take a cool, refreshing shower and try one of our wonderful paraben-free moisturizers. That will help your skin recover any lost moisture as the hydration penetrates and renews your thirsty skin cells. Try one of these options.

Maximum Moistureparaben-free-face-cream ™ with therapeutic Hyaluronic Acid for maximum hydration.

Hyaluronic Acid, Collagen’s Friend

Ladies, it is an unfortunate face that aging changes some of our body systems and not for the better. One of these changes is in collagen production in our skin. As we age, collagen production slows down and damaged skin is not repaired as quickly. Skin begins to dry and fold and sag and lose the supple, smooth look that young skin has. Pulling the skin tight by having a facelift is an option but not one that looks natural and it is expensive and painful.

There is an easier way: renew the skin’s natural level of hydration and encourage collagen production by the use of hyaluronic acid. HA, as hyaluronic acid is known, is a naturally occurring substance that is present in your skin but in lower levels as the skin ages. When you smooth on a moisturizer with a therapeutic level of HA it works in two ways. The skin’s surface is penetrated by low molecular weight HA to carry hydration deep into the skin cell. The higher molecular weight HA helps the surface of the skin bind to moisture and stay soft and smooth.  Collagen production is stimulated and skin looks radiant and lovely.

There are many preparations containing HA on the market but we believe our Hydrospherex hyaluronic acid serum is one of the most effective products at delivering a therapeutic level of HA nourishing your skin and slowing cell destruction. Hydrospherex contains no parabens or artificial fragrances, fillers or preservatives and is not tested on animals. It goes on smoothly and does not clog your pores.

Add Hydrospherex to your wrinkle-fighting line up today and see what a difference this natural acid with the funny sounding name can do. We think you’ll be delighted with the results and come back for more! That’s why we back it with our money-back guarantee and we rush it to you with priority shipping!

The Super Bowl Battle

This is Super Bowl Sunday and many people all over America believe that the big battle is going to be carried out on the football field under the watchful eye of the television cameras.  Well, that will certainly be one battle going on today but it doesn’t begin to compare to the day to day battle against the signs of aging:  wrinkles!

Every day this battle rages on and the teams are pretty powerful.  On the side of aging we have:

  • Age
  • Air pollution
  • Smoking
  • Sun exposure
  • Poor nutrition
  • Bad skincare and makeup products that can actually age you faster.

On the side of beauty we have:

  • Pure Water
  • Delicious fruits and vegetables
  • Sunscreen and sunblock
  • Moisturizers and Anti-wrinkle creams that include hyaluronic acid, retinol, squalane, aloe vera, peptides but NEVER parabens, phthalates or artificial fragrances.

Vegetables and fruits are great for skinSince today IS Super Bowl Sunday let’s start with good nutrition.  Please, step away from the chips and dip. Avoid fried chicken, hot dogs and carbohydrates like cupcakes and those football shaped cakes.  If you are the hostess create some beautiful vegetable trays with fresh fruit and veges that have the vitamins your skin needs and your taste buds love. Your guests will love them too! Next, make sure you have plenty of pure water on hand.  Nothing quenches thirst better and hydrates you from the inside out better than clear, pure, water.  Your skin will love you for it!

Now lets talk about moisturizing.  Really, all you have to do to moisturize is use a simple lotion or cream that seals moisture in after your shower or bath.  But that is not the same as fighting the battle to banish wrinkles.  Today’s woman has a serious arsenal of weapons to choose from and they are not dangerous chemicals.  They are ingredients like hyaluronic acid, peptides, vitamins, and squalane that are a part of your skin’s natural renewal process.  Now you are doing far more than just sealing in the moisture from a shower.  Now you are aiding your skin’s natural renewing process and helping rebuild collagen and hydrate depleted cells!  The only other thing you should do is make sure and wear a good sunblock or sunscreen daily.  Ready to start fighting wrinkles:  Here are some of our best anti-aging moisturizers!

What a Difference Moisturization Makes

What is more beautiful than a blooming rose? Not much, and that is why the rose is the queen of romance in the floral industry. Roses are for proposals, for anniversaries, for romantic weekends and for saying, “I’m really sorry,” and it’s all tied to their lush, rich color and texture. We compliment women when we tell them their skin feels like rose petals or the blush on their cheek is the color of a pink rose. But within a few days of purchase, a rose does not look so beautiful.  What is the difference between that glowing pink blossom and the brown withered husk it has turned into? Moisture. That is really the only thing that changes. As moisture leaches out of the cut rose, the flower discolors, shrivels, and becomes wrinkled. It is exactly the same with an aging face.

As your skin gets older, it loses the ability to hold moisture. Sun damage, smoking, and environmental factors can make your skin age even faster. Decades ago, women would put cold cream on their faces to hold in moisture and try to stop the advancing years. But now, there are more advanced options to combat wrinkles and return a person’s face to a more youthful appearance. Surprisingly, the most effective advances are the most natural. The peptides and hyaluronic acid found in today’s phenomenal moisturizers are not strange chemicals cooked up in a lab. They are exactly what your body uses on a daily basis to keep itself moisturized. They are part of the process that aids in the production of collagen and they work inside the cells to accomplish this renewal.

You may be wondering how they even get inside your skin cells when you just massaged the facial cream into the surface. That is simple: your skin craves moisture. When you apply a wrinkle cream to the skin on your face it only takes a second or two to sink in and begin its work. It isn’t greasy so it doesn’t float on the surface or clog your pores; it is absorbed and aids the natural renewal function of your skin to bring back moisture to the cells. Ready to start? The Dry Skin Dilemma

Dry Skin is a problem that affects approximately 40% of our female population and is caused by many diverse factors.  Surprisingly, a significant number of women are slightly dehydrated on a regular basis.  For these women, simply increasing water intake might alleviate symptoms of dry skin.  Others may have dry skin as a consequence of Diabetes, over-exposure to sunlight, smoking, or simple aging.

No matter what the cause is, the results of dry skin are frustrating and not attractive.  Skin cells collapse as moisture is depleted.  Small lines and webbing appears on faces and hands.  Lines at the corners of the mouth and eyes form and begin to crease more deeply.  Skin may appear dry, flakey, and slightly scaly instead of smooth and silky.

If you notice signs of dry skin on your face or hands, consider these solutions.

  • Make sure you are getting plenty of water to drink.
  • Avoid exposure to harsh sunlight
  • Reduce or quit smoking
  • Eat foods rich in Vitamin E including almonds, wheat germ, safflower oil, peanuts and hazelnuts
  • Moisturize with a product high in hyaluronic acid and peptides

Why hyaluronic acid and peptides?  Hyaluronic acid penetrates your skin and works directly on the layers below the surface.  On the skin above hyaluronic acid moisturizes and reduces fine lines and wrinkles, smoothing away dry, rough spots.  Below, HA hydrates and stimulates skin repair by facilitating the production of collagen.  The result is that skin cells are plumper, moister, less dry and depleted.  Your skin looks smooth and silky, rich and radiant.

Peptides are also extremely valuable in your defensive arsenal against dry, aged skin.  Peptides enhance and promote collagen production and increase elasticity in skin making it more supple and young-looking.

If dry skin is your problem, consider the lifestyle changes above and daily cleanse with a gentle, paraben-free cleanser and then moisturize with a hydrating cream rich in Peptides and Hyaluronic Acid such as Peptide 6™ from Mango Madness Skin Care.

Avoid the Winter Blues with a Quality Self Tanner

Although you probably enjoyed all of the festivities that go along with the holiday season and seeing snow on the ground for the first time, once those occasions pass and winter sets in, it can turn into a seemingly endless stretch of cold temperatures, gray skies, and minimal amounts of sunlight. In fact, because winter can be the gloomiest time of the year, some people end up suffering from a condition known as seasonal affective disorder. This disorder causes everything from feelings of social withdrawal to overeating. While you can’t change the outdoor conditions that go along with winter, that doesn’t mean you have to settle for feeling less than 100% during these months.

Being Tan Feels Great

Have you noticed that when you’re tan during the summer, you actually feel better about yourself? Even if your weight doesn’t change at all between winter and summer, you’re likely to feel thinner when you’re tan. You also probably like the way you look in pictures much more when you’re tanned. The main reason everyone loves a nice tan is because society associates it with being youthful and active or just having returned from a fabulous tropical island vacation.

While a nice tan can make you feel young and alive, the fact many people overlook is that traditional tanning is actually the fastest way to age your skin, not to mention inviting skin health problems. Although baking under the sun or even in a tanning bed may give you a beautiful bronze glow for the time being, it will eventually lead to you having wrinkled skin from head to toe. And even though there are products that can help you reduce the wrinkles that result from tanning, it’s much easier to avoid developing them in the first place.

How to Stay Tan and Avoid Damaging Your Skin

The good news is not only is it possible to tan your skin without damaging it, but it’s possible to maintain this type of tan throughout the winter months. The solution to safely staying bronze and avoiding the winter blues is to use a quality, paraben-free paraben free tanner. By using a quality sunless tanner in conjunction with a daily moisturizer, you will have no trouble developing and maintaining the type of glow that you only thought was possible during the middle of summer. In fact, once you reach your desired color, you will only have to use the tanner 1 to 2 times a week to maintain your glow.

When you’re deciding which self tanner to use, you will want to choose one that’s paraben free. By selecting a tanner that’s free of parabens and fragrance, you can use it without worrying about encountering any side effects. If you’re concerned about ending up with stains or streaks as a result of using this type of product, you’ll be happy to know that quality self tanners are able to deliver color without those annoying imperfections. If you want to feel your best throughout the rest of the winter months, you can use a self tanner to start developing the tan you want in just a matter of days!

When is Less Sometimes More with Anti-Aging Skin Care Products?

Ever go to the Department store to shop for anti-aging skin care products and have the salesperson tell you that you need an exfoliator, a moisturizer, a wrinkle cream and maybe an under eye cream?

Not so! High quality advanced wrinkle creams such as Peptide 6™ by Mango Madness Skin Care not only contain six potent wrinkle-fighting peptides, but also contain hyaluronic acid, the super moisturizing ingredient, so unless you have particularly dry skin, you don’t need both a wrinkle cream and a moisturizer. You can also use Peptide 6 as a neck cream and on your hands and chest.

Thinking of getting both an exfoliator and a wrinkle cream? You can have both with ReNew Youth™, retinol cream which contains the highest non-prescription dosage available of retinol. And ReNew Youth also contains hyaluronic acid – so it moisturizes as well.

Strategy for younger looking skin

With the passing of time, years of exposure to environmental conditions gradually impact the health and smoothness of our skin.  In particular, sunlight is responsible for most of the aging. Collagen naturally becomes less dense with age, and this factor causes skin to form lines and creases.

There are three basic practices for combating these aging factors and begin to offset the effects of time and recapture your younger looking skin. The first is to exfoliate your skin on a regular basis; this will allow the body to heal itself by encouraging the growth of new skin cells. Several scrubs, gels, and exfoliators are available to help you achieve this result. These include glycolic acid in one of several concentrations and mechanical exfoliation using an abrasive material such as microdermabrasion preparation (more aggressive) or a face scrub with amber crystals (more gentle). If you have dry skin, the abrasive techniques are more suited to you. If you have oily skin, you may want to try a glycolic acid.

The next step is to use a proven wrinkle reducing product containing effective dosages of either peptides or retinol. These have been clinically demonstrated to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, especially when used as part of a dedicated skin care regimen. A good deep wrinkle smoothing cream will help rebuild your skin’s collagen and reduce wrinkles.

The third practice is to moisturize your skin at least twice a day.  The best face cream moisturizer available contains hyaluronic acid. This compound is found naturally in your body and is known not only to help repair skin damage, but also to provide better moisturizing by holding 1,000 times its weight in water.
