Thunder, Lightning, Snow and Skincare…

What does skincare have to do with the weather? The biggest thing that it has in common with sudden changes in the weather is that there are changes in what you need, and that you have to be prepared. Most women carry an umbrella, tissues, lipstick and hand lotion. But few carry  facial sun block or a light moisturizer in their purse.

Why is that? Sunscreen or sunblock is potentially the most important thing you could carry with you because the sun is the biggest threat to your complexion. Buy Protect Me™ Paraben-Free Sunscreen and keep it in your purse for times when your best friend wants you to go look at that amazing rose garden or dine outside at that new restaurant with the amazing courtyard. Suddenly you’re protected from the sun’s aging rays effectively with no odor or greasiness.

The other thing that would be a wonderful addition to your purse is a light moisturizer. We should not have to say this, but please don’t use your typical hand lotion on your face. Hand lotions are often chosen with less care than facial creams, and very often come with a strong fragrance. Fragrances can irritate the more delicate skin around your eyes, and most hand creams include parabens in the list of ingredients. Parabens are potentially a hazard because they have been implicated in women’s health issues and identified as a component that can promote skin aging. They are not something you want on your face.

So let the snow and end of summer storms come. You’ve got your umbrella, rain boots and a scraper for your windshield! And, hopefully we’ve convinced you to also carry a light moisturizer for times when your skin is dry, and a facial sunscreen to protect you from exposure.

Hyaluronic Acid – Why Is it Essential For Skin?

The research into the properties of Hyaluronan or Hyaluronic Acid are so numerous that Wikipedia alone lists 82 reference documents to support its article. It is considered an essential ingredient in good skin care and anti-aging products with good reason. Studies have shown that Hyaluronic Acid plays a part in wound care and scar prevention and it is even considered a part of diabetic wound therapy.

What makes it so very important for skin and wound healing? The key thing to understand is that your body needs and uses Hyaluronic Acid daily whether or not you use any products containing it. Your body requires it for skin connectivity and renewal and for healthy joints and other connective tissue. One third of all your body’s store of Hyaluronan is “turned over” every day as your body renews cells damaged by age or external factors.

As a key component in connective tissue, Hyaluronic Acid is part of what keeps your skin supple, smooth, and not drooping or wrinkled. Preparations containing Hyaluronic Acid are smoothed onto skin and absorbed readily into the cellular layers boosting their ability to repair themselves and maintain an attractive level of hydration.

If so many skin care preparations contain Hyaluronic Acid, does it matter which one to use? The simple answer is yes, and this is why. Hyaluronic Acid is one ingredient in skin care but it may be a tiny fraction of the over all lotion you are using. There may be fillers, fragrances, preservatives, coloring agents and many other ingredients listed on the label. You want to buy an anti-aging cream that has a short ingredient list and a better percentage of active ingredients. You also do not want your skin care products to contain parabens, phthalates, fragrance, triclosans, or formaldehyde forming agents. Those can be potentially harmful and even contribute to aging.

That’s why we recommend the natural goodness of Mango Madness Skin Care’s Hyaluronic Acid Serum, Hydrospherex™ . You get the maximum therapeutic amount of Hyaluronic Acid with no animal testing or potentially risky adulterants.

Why Does Complexion Matter?

We hear people talking about female beauty and they speak of someone’s beautiful eyes. Or the dazzling smile or hair color. But, as any beauty queen can tell you, it only takes one pimple to change your whole level of confidence and self-esteem. It’s not like the day your hair doesn’t behave so you put it in a French twist and wear classy earrings. Nope, because of the skin thickening and the coloration of a blemish, really covering them up is not as easy as you would think. So complexion doesn’t get talked about as much but it is very important.

It is more logical than you would think because really, your skin is your biggest beauty asset. It covers every inch of you and subtly or not-so-subtly communicates details about you to other people. The state of your skin and coloring can let someone know you haven’t been well. The way your skin looks can signal your age to people you meet. Your skin can even communicate whether or not you are a smoker.

With that much power over your looks it just makes sense to treat your skin very well and make sure it looks its best. You want your skin to be healthy, supple, radiant and as unlined as possible. You want moisturized skin, not “sandpaper” or dried skin.

The best way to do that is to get plenty of water to drink, good nutrition and your fair share of a good night’s sleep. Then, choose a cleansing product that is gentle but thorough, and a moisturizer that contains jut the ingredients you need and none of the ingredients you don’t need or want. So we suggest Peptide 6® for it’s combination of powerful collagen renewing peptides plus hyaluronic acid, jojoba oil, apricot kernel oil, and squalane. And not a single paraben or phthalate or artificial fragrance! All of what you need, and none of what you don’t! Try Peptide 6® today.

4 Tips to A Prettier Neck

Many women have flawless skin on their faces but neglect their necks. Sometimes it is just because they don’t know what to do. It is not that difficult. Like your face, there are things your neck needs to look its best and providing those elements will make all the difference.

1) Protection from the sun. We are sure that comes as no surprise because it is the absolute number one rule of any skin care. You don’t have to layer scarves over turtlenecks or grow your hair longer but remember that the skin on your neck needs as much protection as your face. So use a combination of clothing and sunscreen to protect your neck whenever you are out of doors.

2) Cleanse and exfoliate – but gently. Did you know the skin on your neck is thinner than most other skin on your body? That’s because the skin on your neck is similar to your elbows and knees in that it has to move and stretch regularly. You cannot nod or turn your head without stretching the skin on your neck. So do take the time to cleanse with a gentle cleanser on a regular basis.

3) Match your face. If you are using a foundation makeup make sure to feather it in as your fingertips go down your neck. It looks unnatural for your face to be one color and your neck another. You can gently brush on a little bronzer in the front where your neck usually would get the most sun. It will look natural if you do it sparingly, and will help hide any imperfections.

4) Use a good moisturizer twice daily. We  recommend Necquelle because it is formulated for your neck. Necquelle has just the right amount of unique ingredients plus peptides and hyaluronic acid to firm and smooth the delicate skin from your chin to your cleavage.

Give Necquelle a try and we bet you will love it! Like all our products, Necquelle contains NO parabens and is not tested on animals. Necquelle Neck Firming and Smoothing Cream.

Can Your Face Be Too Clean?

The simple answer is yes. The complicated explanation is easier than you would think to understand so let’s tackle the subject of having a clean face one point at a time. First, your body was created to protect itself with a covering of a wonderful organ called skin. That skin covers every inch of you and is particularly delicate on your face.

The skin has its own system of protection and renewal, and it relies on natural oils to protect it and keep it supple. For renewal, the skin sloughs off dead skin cells and makes fresh new ones. So why do we clean it at all? First, because it gets dirty. We have airborne pollutants, food, makeup, and daily grime all piling up on our skin. We spray our hair with hair spray, our throat with perfume, and the face gets some of that as well.

So what’s wrong with scrubbing it? Everything! You want to take off that first layer of soil, and you want to remove dead skin cells but most bar and soft soaps contain SLS which is a degreaser used in car washes! What does that do? It lathers right up and takes the oil right off of your skin cells weakening their protection against the elements and drying them! To add to the skin damage, many soaps brag about being anti-bacterial and use alcohol (a drying agent) or triclosan (a potential toxin, endocrine disrupter, and allergan). Both of these ingredients irritate your skin and make it rougher. Then, to further disturb the delicate balance of your skin, many commercial soaps contain parabens as preservatives which can age your skin and mimic female hormones causing potential threats to your health.

So what should you do? Only us a soap that is free of parabens, triclosan, alcohol, and SLS. Apply it gently and do NOT scrub your skin. If you are exfoliating use a scrub with microbeads or AHA to do it gently and naturally, not be applying more pressure to a wash cloth. The results of treating your skin gently are phenomenal. Your skin will look more natural, have a more even skin tone, and break out less often. If you’d like a good cleanser or exfoliator, look no more! We have them right here!

July Delivers a Jolt of Heat

How does a woman stay cool in the summer and still protect her skin? Perhaps a complete Bedouin outfit with layers of fabric while hiding inside an air-conditioned building would do it?!

It’s not easy but if you follow some simple rules you will be able to keep your skin safe and your body as comfortable as possible. Living in Florida for years gives you some pointers to go by! Here are the things we have found work:

  • Avoid going out of doors between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Those are the hottest times of the day when the sun is right overhead glaring down on you. These are the times you will feel like a baked potato and your skin will be exposed to the greatest amount of UVA and UVB rays shining down.
  • Wear light colors and layer light fabrics covering as much of your body as you are comfortable with. Lightweight linen slacks, a flowing summery skirt, a white overshirt with a little tank underneath, will all help you feel less heavy, less confined. Your skin needs to breathe in order to stay cool so now is the time for the lightest, loosest fabrics.
  • We’ve said it before in many places but it bears repeating here: Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water and lighter fruit juice infused drinks. Avoid alcohol and / or caffeine as both can make you feel flushed and hotter.

After you’ve been out in the summer heat, take a cool, refreshing shower and try one of our wonderful paraben-free moisturizers. That will help your skin recover any lost moisture as the hydration penetrates and renews your thirsty skin cells. Try one of these options.

What Did We Leave Out?

One of our big selling points is that we are Paraben Free, and many people know how important that is and how that sets us apart from the vast majority of skin care products. But that isn’t all we are free of and some of the other, less well-known stuff, is important to leave out as well.

First, we do not now nor will we ever use estrogen-mimicking compounds. There are a lot of those in the world and they are prevalent in many common household products, skin care products, and food products. They are even present in packaging materials and can leach into your food. We think very carefully before we add anything to one of our products and it is important to us that we not be one more source of toxins in our customers lives.

We also do not put in formaldehydes, phthalates, or any artificial fragrances. We do not want anything that has been found to be a health hazard in our products, and we also do not want anything that can irritate skin. We are here to make your skin smoother and more youthful, not red and sore!

We also avoid animal testing because we don’t believe in it and we do not think you do either.

So maybe it looks like we are leaving out a number of things and acting as if that makes us special or our products better. The truth is, that it does. Having less fillers and dubious ingredients in our products means that we have more of the good stuff that helps your skin to improve! It also means there is less for you to worry about. You don’t have to read down a huge list of ingredients on our labels and try to figure out which ones are good and which are bad. In this industry, simple is better!

And last, it means we do not compromise with your health or your ethics for a higher profit margin. We make our living off of the value we offer to our customers and that makes us sleep good at night! We want you to buy Mango Madness Skin Care because you feel great about it and we work to keep it that way!

Sun Damage – How Does It Happen?

You hear about the need to wear a sunscreen or stay out of the sun all the time. And you hear that it causes aging and skin cancer. But no one ever says what amount is OK, and exactly HOW the sun is a problem.

Part of that is because of the popular phrase, “your mileage may vary.” And basically, what that means is that no one set of statistics fits everyone. How much time you can safely spend in the sun depends on the following:

  • How old are you?
  • What part of the world are you in?
  • What color is your skin?
  • What is your family history?
  • What is your personal history – do you tan or burn easily?

And that is why most dermatologists recommend that you limit your time and exposure to the sun. And, if you must be out in the sun, at least wear a fairly high SPF sunscreen or sunblock.

Does a sunblock really stop the UVA and UVB rays of the sun from penetrating? Well, they are more effective than you might think. First, look for one that is full spectrum; that means it blocks both UVA and UVB rays. Then, look for one that has a high SPF (Skin Protection Factor) because the higher the SPF, the more your skin is protected. Last, make sure it has no Parabens. Parabens are preservatives but they are believed to cause aging of the skin and have been implicated in cancer studies. No need to put anything with Parabens in it on your skin.

We recommend our water-resistant, broad spectrum Protect Me™ to protect your face with the best level of protection. We also have a self tanner and a wonderful body cream for after-sun moisturization. But first, get that sunblock on and remember to watch the clock and don’t overdo it anyway!

Are You Irritating Your Skin?

We all want to have beautiful skin but we are also often our skin’s worst enemy. We don’t get enough hydration through water or moisturizers, we smoke, we stay out in the sun, stay indoors with forced-air heat, and wear irritating fragrances and preparations that cause damage to our skin. A great example of the last thing on that list is using preparations that cause damage to our skin. There are more than you would think. Did you realize anti-bacterial soaps can lower our immune system? It has been proven to be true. Parabens, the source of a lot of controversy, have actually been shown to advance aging in the skin and yet they are used as preservatives in many anti-wrinkle preparations.

So what can you do to make sure that you keep your skin wrinkle-free, smooth and silky? First, the obvious, stop smoking and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. Smoking is bad for you on so many levels and it is very hard on your skin. It literally starves the skin of blood supply and hydration which is why smokers have more than twice as many wrinkles around their mouths as women who did not smoke. Next, wear a hat, slather on sunscreen, stay inside. Whatever it takes to get out of the sun, for your skin’s sake do it!

The next ones are easy:

  • focus on good nutrition with plenty of fruits and vitamins
  • drink plenty of liquids especially water
  • get plenty of sleep and try to avoid stress wherever possible

Finally, watch your personal care products from soaps to makeup to face creams and make sure there are no parabens listed on the label. If you see parabens, purchase a different brand. Parabens have been linked with possible breast cancer and are known hormone disruptors. That’s bad enough but they have also been shown to promote aging. There is no need to put anything on your skin that promotes aging. Aging happens anyway, so let’s avoid it! Ready to buy paraben-free skin care? Here’s your link to the best you can get!

Give Thirsty Skin Maximum Moisture

If you have dry skin you have probably run your fingers across it and wondered what it would take to make it smooth and silky. That’s an important concern because it does not just affect your tactile impressions of your skin. When your face feels dry, scratchy, flaky and parched the surface smoothness is only an indicator of problems deeper down. Skin cells feel rough or flaky when they are depleted of fluids and they dry out. As they dry, they crumple inward and lose their natural flexibility. Cracks appear and damage begins as the face sags and wrinkles. We think of the appearance that results from that process as “aging” when it is really more a function of “drying.” When you think of it that way it is kind of amazing isn’t it? You could keep your skin young if you successfully kept it hydrated! That’s really how simple it is.

When we are young, there are processes in place in our skin which keeps the skin moist and renews the hydration in cells. As we get older, starting in our twenties, the skin loses some of its ability to produce collagen and moisture is lost. Then the damage of dry skin begins to form lines and wrinkles around the mouth, around the eyes. Botox works because it keeps the skin from moving so it doesn’t wrinkle. But wouldn’t you rather have skin that moved naturally and didn’t wrinkle because it is well moisturized? Of course you would.

paraben-free-face-creamScientists have spent decades researching the normal process of skin aging and they discovered some natural chemicals that work with the skin to keep it moisturized and help the skin repair and renew itself. Two of the most effective ones, Hyaluronic Acid and Squalane are in our Maximum Moisture™™ face cream. As a matter of fact, Maximum Moisture™ contains the maximum therapeutic dose of Hyaluronic Acid. That is the amount that has been deemed to be effective for your skin. Less is not enough, more won’t accomplish anything extra.

How does it work? When Maximum Moisture™ is applied to your skin, it penetrates deep into the cells bringing hydration and restoring flexibility and suppleness to your skin. But it also does more. It is an ingredient that your body needs to boost collagen production so not only does it moisturize, it encourages your skins natural production of the collagen that young skin produces on its own. That’s why regular applications of Maximum Moisture work wonders for your skin! If you are ready to begin the healing process click here and learn more about Maximum Moisture™.
