Sticking Your Neck Out

You’ve exfoliated, moisturized, put on foundation and coated every lash with ebony mascara; then you see it.  Underneath a nearly perfect face is a neck covered with a webbing of fine lines and gently slack skin.  How can that be?  You drink plenty of water, watch your weight and your skin is in very good shape.  Your soap is the best money can buy!  But there is no denying it, your neck is showing your age in a way that the rest of you doesn’t.  Why is that?

The reasons for the aging of skin on our necks are many.  Like your face and hands, your neck is exposed to the sun more than most of your body.  And, like your face and hands, the skin on your neck goes through a fairly large range of motion.  Think about it, your eyes get little crows-feet just from smiling, while your neck has to follow every turn and nod of your head.  If you say yes, your neck is pulled one way and pushed another.  If you turn to watch Johnny Depp walk by your neck stretches on one side and wrinkles on the other.  And the positions you sleep in may be comfortable but there is a reason you wake up with lines on your neck!  With all that stress on the skin of your neck no wonder it seems to age faster than the rest of your body.

It doesn’t really age faster but because it has such a unique position in the body, it needs unique treatment.  Mango Madness formulated Necquelle just for the skin on your neck.  Created with peptides for maximum skin renewal, and squalane for its antioxidant properties and its superior moisturizing,  this powerful anti-wrinkle cream is easy to use and feels wonderful.   The anti-aging ingredients help firm and lift the skin on your neck and restore the supple beauty to this delicate skin.  Using Necquelle on a regular basis will help prevent new lines and wrinkles from forming while it gently reduces the existing fine lines.

Using Necquelle neck cream is simple.  Starting at the top of your bra line gently stroke Necquelle into your skin with upward strokes.  Pay careful attention to the area just under your chin and along your jaw line.  Necquelle is gentle enough to be used daily and you will love the results!  The skin along your neck will look younger, smoother, silkier and your friends will wonder what the subtle change is.

Enjoy Necquelle with confidence knowing it is made with no parabens, artificial fragrance, estrogen, phthalates, sulfates, or formaldehyde. This neck firming cream is free of gluten and there is absolutely no animal testing on any Mango Madness Skincare product.

Taking Issue with Consumer Reports Wrinkle Cream Ratings

In its September 2011 issue (p. 10), Consumer Reports magazine features a story evaluating several advanced skin care products on the basis of effectiveness. CU basically criticized the tested products as marginally effective, although some definite wrinkle reduction effects were observed.

Here’s the problem we have with the Consumer Reports test: they used products that are typically either low-budget, drug store brands with cheap, dilute ingredients, or are the over-hyped department store brands that spend more money on advertising and packaging than on ingredients known for their effectiveness.

The CU “winner” was not even a wrinkle cream, but a moisturizer known as Garnier Nutritioniste. However, neither the CU article or the Garnier website reveals the ingredients in the product. That’s a red flag for savvy consumers, and CU didn’t even pick that up.

If you have read the posts on this skin care blog, you will readily know that there are four mainstay ingredients in effective skin care products: peptides, retinol, hyaluronic acid, and alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs). However, while some brands might include minor amounts of one of these ingredients for marketing purposes (“Contains Peptides!”), unless these wrinkle fighting ingredients are in a sufficiently concentrated form, they are not going to do your skin much good.

For example, in a clinical trial study sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, topical creams with proper concentrations of peptides (specifically Palmitoyl pentapeptide, also known as Matrixyl) used after 4 months decreased the depth and volume of facial wrinkles in test subjects by 27% and 36%, respectively.

Strategy for younger looking skin

With the passing of time, years of exposure to environmental conditions gradually impact the health and smoothness of our skin.  In particular, sunlight is responsible for most of the aging. Collagen naturally becomes less dense with age, and this factor causes skin to form lines and creases.

There are three basic practices for combating these aging factors and begin to offset the effects of time and recapture your younger looking skin. The first is to exfoliate your skin on a regular basis; this will allow the body to heal itself by encouraging the growth of new skin cells. Several scrubs, gels, and exfoliators are available to help you achieve this result. These include glycolic acid in one of several concentrations and mechanical exfoliation using an abrasive material such as microdermabrasion preparation (more aggressive) or a face scrub with amber crystals (more gentle). If you have dry skin, the abrasive techniques are more suited to you. If you have oily skin, you may want to try a glycolic acid.

The next step is to use a proven wrinkle reducing product containing effective dosages of either peptides or retinol. These have been clinically demonstrated to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, especially when used as part of a dedicated skin care regimen. A good deep wrinkle smoothing cream will help rebuild your skin’s collagen and reduce wrinkles.

The third practice is to moisturize your skin at least twice a day.  The best face cream moisturizer available contains hyaluronic acid. This compound is found naturally in your body and is known not only to help repair skin damage, but also to provide better moisturizing by holding 1,000 times its weight in water.

A skin care regimen in very important

Even the best and most effective skin care products will not give you optimum results and better skin unless you incorporate them into a diligent daily routine. We recommend the line of paraben free skin care products from Mango Madness Skin Care.

Cleansing is the first step and one for which many women are using inappropriate products. Be sure you use a gentle and genuine soap (not a detergent type cleanser).  Many cleansers that we call soap are technically not soap (and will use terms such as “cleansing bar”). Be sure to read the ingredient label. You should cleanse your face twice daily with a quality facial cleanser such as Rose Hip Seed Oil.

Don’t forget to exfoliate! It’s one of the most important aspects of a skin care regimen and many women skip this step.  Two to three times a week, use either a paraben-free glycolic acid based cleanser or exfoliator (such as Exfoliate Me™ or Exfoliation Plus+™). Alternatively, and especially if you have dry skin, use a gentle facial scrub such as Oh Honey! with amber crystals or a microdermabrasion product.

After cleansing and/or exfoliating, apply a potent wrinkle cream such as ReNew Youth™ or Peptide 6™ on a daily basis. For maximum benefit, use ReNew Youth in the evening and Peptide 6 in the daytime.

Hydrate your skin: after you apply your wrinkle cream, follow it with the best moisturizing ingredient on the market, hyaluronic acid. We recommend Maximum Moisture™ hyaluronic acid cream applied twice a day.

Finally, remember your sunblock and use it every day – even if you are not planning to be out in the bright sunlight for a long time.  Sunlight causes about 80% of skin aging and its effects are cumulative over your lifetime. Be sure to use a full spectrum, UVA/UVB sunblock with a SPF of at least 30. The best sunblocks contain titanium dioxide.
