I’ve Smoked, I’ve Lived in the Sun, What Now?

How can I undo years of poor lifestyle choices that have caused skin damage?

People ask this question all the time! And they are nervous about asking because they don’t want to get a lecture or get judged. We all understand that. We’ve all eaten the piece of cake we shouldn’t, dated the guy we were told is trouble, or spent the day in the sun when we should have been indoors.

A lot of lifestyle choices affect the way skin looks. How many of these factors are a part of your life or past life?

  • Drinking alcohol regularly or to excess
  • Spending too much time in the sun without sunscreen or adequate coverage
  • Using a tanning bed
  • Drinking an inadequate amount of water
  • Not eating a decent amount of fruits and vegetables.
  • Not getting enough sleep.

Is there any way to renew and promote healing in the skin cells that have been depleted or damaged? Fortunately, yes! There are two strong ingredients that are proven to help renew collagen, increase hydration, and minimize and/or diminish fine lines.

The first of those is Vitamin A. Also known as Retinol this wonderful vitamin is great at penetrating skin cells and delivering nourishment and fading age spots. That Retinol face cream acts as a moisturizer and a powerful face cream that helps smooth and provide anti-oxidants to troubled skin. Ready to try it? Banish the Signs of Stress

Many women ask us about products meant to slow or stop the power aging has over our body and face.  Some of their complaints are the lines from the nose to the mouth, the lines across the forehead and right above the bridge of the nose, dark circles under the eyes. Really, a significant component in the visible signs of aging is stress.

In a very real manner, stress affects how your body (including your skin) feels and looks. Stress is the system that wakes you up in the very early hours of the morning and won’t let you go back to sleep. Stress is what you see when you glance at a mirror and realize you are frowning. There are stress hormones that come in to play when you go through a difficult time with your family or on the job. In many women’s lives stress is a daily fact of life, something that is almost unavoidable. The good news is that it is not unstoppable. There are thing you can do to help your body relax even if you cannot stop the source of the stress.

Laugh – Yes, that old saying, “Laughter is the best medicine,” is actually true. What can you do to keep some laughter in your life? Subscribe to a cartoon or joke of the day so it shows up in your inbox along with work and gives your mood a tiny lift. Get an app with amusing videos or jokes on your smart phone and use it when you have unavoidable down time like waiting at the dentist’s office.

Meditate – Of course we know you’re short of time and busy, busy, busy. Take ten minutes at night when you are lying down to sleep and follow a meditation meant for calming relaxation. What can that really do? It can change your pre-sleep thoughts and mood so that you sleep longer and more fully.

Exercise – If you can join a gym or a walking group, do so. Follow through and keep going regularly, your heart will thank you for it. If you don’t have the time or energy, just make a point of walking a little more and getting up from a seated position more often.   Walk over to a window and look out. Walk down a hallway and back.

Lastly, we have two products we recommend if the stress in your life is starting to show in your face. The first is Peptide6® to fight fine lines and wrinkles with the body’s own methods. The second is RefreshMe™ under-eye cream for dark circles. Both can help you look less stressed as you work on finding ways to relax more.

What a Difference Moisturization Makes

What is more beautiful than a blooming rose? Not much, and that is why the rose is the queen of romance in the floral industry. Roses are for proposals, for anniversaries, for romantic weekends and for saying, “I’m really sorry,” and it’s all tied to their lush, rich color and texture. We compliment women when we tell them their skin feels like rose petals or the blush on their cheek is the color of a pink rose. But within a few days of purchase, a rose does not look so beautiful.  What is the difference between that glowing pink blossom and the brown withered husk it has turned into? Moisture. That is really the only thing that changes. As moisture leaches out of the cut rose, the flower discolors, shrivels, and becomes wrinkled. It is exactly the same with an aging face.

As your skin gets older, it loses the ability to hold moisture. Sun damage, smoking, and environmental factors can make your skin age even faster. Decades ago, women would put cold cream on their faces to hold in moisture and try to stop the advancing years. But now, there are more advanced options to combat wrinkles and return a person’s face to a more youthful appearance. Surprisingly, the most effective advances are the most natural. The peptides and hyaluronic acid found in today’s phenomenal moisturizers are not strange chemicals cooked up in a lab. They are exactly what your body uses on a daily basis to keep itself moisturized. They are part of the process that aids in the production of collagen and they work inside the cells to accomplish this renewal.

You may be wondering how they even get inside your skin cells when you just massaged the facial cream into the surface. That is simple: your skin craves moisture. When you apply a wrinkle cream to the skin on your face it only takes a second or two to sink in and begin its work. It isn’t greasy so it doesn’t float on the surface or clog your pores; it is absorbed and aids the natural renewal function of your skin to bring back moisture to the cells. Ready to start? Take Your Vitamins!

The moment we hear the two words “vitamin” and “skin” together most people immediately think of Vitamin E.  Moisturizers, conditioners, even dog shampoo is marketed as having Vitamin E for healthy skin and hair. But Vitamin E is only one of the vitamins that are needed for healthy, beautiful skin.

The vitamin you take to avoid the common cold is also considered a powerful ally of your skin because it aids in building collagen and is a strong anti-oxidant.  Vitamin C is found in abundance in fruit like oranges and mangoes and is one of the most popular vitamins to take.  Working from within to keep you healthy and your skin vibrant and beautiful, Vitamin C should be an every day supplement in most women’s diets.  Naturally, discuss any supplement decision with your health care provider.

You get an A if you knew that Vitamin A is another vitamin that is absolutely wonderful for your skin.  Topically applied it plays a measurable role in reducing uneven skin coloration and penetrates the skin to perform its anti-oxidant duties.  Any woman who is concerned about the discoloration and fine wrinkles that occur with age would do well to consider a skin care product that includes Retinol.  Retinol is the active form of Vitamin A and it stimulates the production of collagen and new skin cells.

When combined in a formula with Jojoba, Apricot Kernel Oil, and Hyaluronic Acid, it is effective at rejuvenating facial skin cells; with regular use your skin can look radiant and wrinkle-free. ReNew Youth provides the maximum amount of retinol available over the counter for maximum effectiveness.  Using anti-wrinkle cream ReNew Youth may be the best decision you ever made for your skin.  And, you can use ReNew Youth with confidence knowing that it is paraben-free, not tested on animals and comes with a money back guarantee!

Chemical Peels vs Exfoliation, What Should I Do?

Many women are concerned about a variety of surface skin conditions that respond well to peels or exfoliating gels or scrubs.  But is there a way to determine which is right for your skin?  To start with, it is helpful to know what a chemical peel is.  In a peel a doctor will use a chemical formula on your face which causes the skin to blister up and then to slough off.  When the face heals, the resulting skin is fragile and needs special care, but is generally free of many of the original fine lines and discoloration caused by age.  The doctor will often use pain medication during and after, and recovery depends on how deep a peel was done.  There are side effects to be considered and these treatments are not recommended for everyone.

In an exfoliation treatment, there are usually products you can safely use at home.  The concept is similar but more gentle:  Old dead skin is scrubbed off or lifted off by a gel, and new fresh skin underneath will have reduced fine lines and discoloration.  You may be using a microdermabrasion method, an AHA gel, or a gentle scrub to remove older skin cells so new fresh skin can shine through:

The advantages to exfoliation at home are numerous:

  • Lower risk of infection, injury or side effects
  • No long recovery
  • Lower costs
  • No need for pain medication or a doctor or medical spa to administer

The most important thing to know is that regularly exfoliating and using a good moisturizer achieves excellent results over time because you are encouraging your skin to rejuvenate and the newer skin is lighter, smoother and less lined.

Please note:  neither method is effective with deep lines or heavy scarring.

There was a time when only the doctor could get really good results on mature skin but skin care science has moved beyond that.  You can make your own choices about treatments and then see the beautiful results for yourself!

See which exfoliation method is right for you!  Choose an exfoliating product.

5 Wrinkle Myths Exposed

There is an important similarity between the fitness and skincare industry. Both of these industries publish frequent articles. Because the majority of these publications come out on a monthly basis, their writers are always trying to come up with new article ideas. As a result, some of the articles that get published may be misleading. While chances are they’re not completely false, articles that fall into this category can give readers the wrong impression. Then over time, these initial ideas that are slightly off can grow and turn into full blown myths.

To help set the record straight, here’s the real truth about five common wrinkle myths:

Myth 1: Indoor Tanning Won’t Wrinkle Your Skin

There’s no denying that tanning beds have made a lot of progress over the last two decades. However, while they have more safety features than when they originally hit the market, that doesn’t mean there aren’t any downsides. Since beds deliver tans through the use of UVA rays, they can lead to just as many wrinkles as tanning outdoors. If you want a golden glow without the risk of wrinkles, you need to skip tanning beds and use a quality paraben free sunless tanning lotion. This type of product will give you the color you want without taking a toll on your skin.

Myth 2: The More You Pay, the Better the Results

This is a myth that companies who produce overpriced skin creams work hard to perpetuate. But the reality of the situation is there’s no reason that you need to spend hundreds of dollars on a cream to get smoother skin. This truth has been confirmed by numerous tests done by independent organizations. Instead, you can get great results from creams that cost less than $100.

Myth 3: You Can Wrinkle Your Skin By Putting on Makeup

The thinking behind this myth is that if you have to pull down your skin to put on mascara or eyeliner, you can actually cause it to wrinkle. The reason this is a myth and not a fact is your skin is designed to be elastic. As a result, simply pulling down part of your skin for a few seconds is not going to exert enough force to cause any type of damage or wrinkles.

Myth 4: Drinking Lots of Water Will Get Rid of Wrinkles

Because adequate moisturize is important for the health and appearance of skin, a common misconception is that you can get the same benefits of a quality moisturizer by drinking lots of water. While it is important to get enough water on a daily basis for your overall health, this practice won’t yield the same skin benefits as you’ll get from applying a good moisturizing cream to your face as part of your daily routine.

Myth 5: You Don’t Need to Worry About Small Doses of Sunlight

While it’s easy to assume that there’s no reason to worry about protecting your skin if you’re not actually laying out for the afternoon, the truth is that you can get exposed to a lot of sunlight throughout the day without even realizing it. Because sunlight exposure is cumulative, it can lead to wrinkles over time. Therefore, it’s important to protect yourself by using a daily sunscreen that features at least SPF 15 protection and protects against both UVA and UVB rays.

Why is Collagen the Key to Smoother Skin?

Everyone wants smoother skin. Unfortunately, many people have to live with skin that’s become wrinkled with time and is starting to look a little worn out. If your skin isn’t quite as smooth as you’d like, the good news is it doesn’t need to remain that way.

If you asked ten people what they thought the key to smooth skin was, you would probably get seven to ten different answers. The reason is magazines and other sources of information are filled with ways to improve your skin. But if you read many of these sources, you’ll notice that one piece of information often contradicts another.

Like weight loss, skin care is a subject that’s commonly dominated by information that has too much fluff and too little substance. While print magazines have to find something to fill their pages, we can get right to the real key to smooth skin. If you want your skin to be smoother, you need to focus on collagen production. When you go below the skin’s surface, collagen is what’s responsible for how it looks. Collagen is the foundation for skin that gives it firmness, support and smoothness.

If your body isn’t producing enough collagen, your skin is going to wrinkle. While collagen production naturally decreases with age, that doesn’t mean you have to settle for wrinkled skin. Instead, there are several things you can do to protect and promote collagen production:

Consistently Use Sunscreen: One of the best ways to maximize collagen production is to minimize damage. While you’re free to enjoy going outside as often as you like, make sure your skin is always protected by a quality UVA/UVB protection sunscreen like Protect Me sunblock.

Avoid Smoking: Another way to minimize skin damage is to avoid smoking. If you currently smoke, you can add smoother skin to your list of reasons to quit.

Exfoliate: When collagen production slows, it results in thinner skin that is easier to wrinkle. Exfoliating will promote collagen production and keep skin thick. The best way to think of exfoliating is like exercise for your skin. The point of going to a gym and working out is to build stronger muscles. When you exfoliate on a regular basis, you are doing the same thing for your skin by building thicker collagen. Look for a paraben free exfoliating cream.

Use a Topical Cream with Peptides: If you’ve heard of peptides but have forgotten what they are, all you need to remember is that they’re very small molecules that are capable of penetrating the skin’s upper layer. When you use a topical product that includes peptides, they are able to penetrate to your dermis. As peptides take this action, they provide a signal to the skin cells that more collagen needs to be produced. Peptide 6 cream is a great example of this type of anti-wrinkle product.

Moisturize: Just like plants, your skin needs moisture to function properly and for optimum health and vitality. Adequately hydrated skin looks fresher, younger and isn’t prone to itching, scaling or looking dried out. Use a good hyaluronic acid cream for smoother skin morning and night.

Some people believe that they have to settle for the type of skin that they’ve been given by their genetics. However, by taking advantage of paraben-free products that are based on the latest developments in skin care, you can reinvigorate collagen production and enjoy beautifully smooth skin!

Is Retinol the Key to Reducing Wrinkles?

If you’re not satisfied with the face you see when you look in the mirror, 2012 can be the year that you make a real change. If you’re hesitant to take action because you’re worried that it’s going to require surgery, you’ll be happy to know that isn’t the case. It’s possible to noticeably reduce wrinkles without going near any needles or other medical equipment. If that kind of change sounds too good to be true, retinol is the reason it’s actually possible.

What is Retinol?

Retinol is one of the two forms of Vitamin A.  The other form is a Vitamin A derived retinoid. The reason retinol reduces wrinkles so effectively is because retinol has a very small structure. While that may seem like information that’s only relevant to scientists, it also matters to you because it means retinol is able to go deeply into the skin and reach where elastin and collagen are located. Since that’s where skin’s shape is truly determined, creams with retinol are far more effective than products that are only able to interact with the skin’s surface.

Once retinol goes into the skin and begins interacting with elastin and collagen, it’s able to accomplish several important goals. First, over the course of time, retinol’s interactions will cause lines to become less visible and wrinkles to be noticeably reduced. Second, as these changes occur, skin will also regain its elasticity, as well as moisture. Additionally, this ongoing rejuvenation will help to give skin a more youthful glow. This will lead to skin looking fresh and youthful instead of tired and worn out. Not only are retinol products some of the most effective at combating wrinkles, but they actually make skin much healthier in the process.

What Type of Retinol Cream Will Reduce Wrinkles?

A good retinol cream is the best way to take advantage of all of the benefits that retinol has to offer. The reason a cream is the best type of product is because it makes it easy for retinol to go beneath the surface of your skin and make improvements where they really count. Another reason retinol cream is a great way to reduce wrinkles is because it’s completely safe to use. Since this type of retinol cream is paraben free, you won’t have to worry about any side effects. And even if you’re sensitive to different kinds of fragrances, you’ll be able to use this cream thanks to the fact that it doesn’t feature any.

Because retinol actually penetrates into the skin instead of simply sitting on the surface, you can use it without worrying that it’s going to make your skin oily. You’ll also find that applying it is a very convenient process. Most women prefer using it at night. Once you have this retinol cream, all you’ll have to do is apply it each night after you wash your face. Because this type of cream is so effective, your skin will already look noticeably better by the time your first jar gets close to being empty!

What’s the Best Way to Prevent Skin Aging?

Sunlight and Aging

Everyone wants skin that has a youthful glow. However, most people don’t understand what actually causes skin to age. Although there are multiple factors that can impact the way your skin looks, there is one factor that stands out from the rest.

Sunlight has the biggest impact on skin aging and wrinkles. It can cause up to 80% of skin aging! Because sunlight has such a huge effect on the appearance of your skin, it’s the factor you should focus on if you want to keep your skin as attractive and healthy as possible.

Even though there’s just one factor that causes the majority of skin aging, there are two main reasons why so many people still end up with skin that looks worn out. The first is most people are exposed to sun on a daily basis. As a result, proper skin care isn’t something that should be done on a monthly or even weekly basis. Instead, preventive measures need to be taken each day. The other reason that sunlight and skin aging is such an issue is because many people willfully expose themselves to far more sunlight than they need.

A common misconception is that tanned skin is more healthy than pale skin. In reality, tanning is the result of skin being damaged. The reason skin darkens when it’s exposed to sunlight or other forms of UV rays is because it’s trying to stop the rays from causing additional damage to the epidermis.

If you want to keep your skin truly healthy, there are two main steps you need to take:

Limit Sun Exposure

Because sunlight is the root cause of skin aging, you want to limit your exposure as much as possible. Keep in mind that this doesn’t mean you have to spend your entire summer indoors. Instead, you can have the best of both worlds by using a broad spectrum sunblock. By applying this type of product whenever you’re getting ready to go outside, you can protect your skin against the sun rays that cause it to age. An added benefit is the ingredients in this type of sunblock will work as a moisturizer for smoother skin.

Avoid Outdoor and Indoor Tanning

Although shows like Jersey Shore have reignited the popularity of tanning, that doesn’t mean that outdoor or indoor tanning has suddenly become a safer option. Fortunately, the fact that you should avoid both forms of tanning if you want to preserve your skin also doesn’t mean that you can’t add a desirable bronze glow to your appearance.

By using self tanning lotion, you can add color to your face and body without aging your skin. To ensure that you safely get the best results from this type of product, be sure to choose one that is paraben-free.

While many people assume that they just have to accept skin damage and eventually use an invasive option like surgery to rejuvenate their skin, the good news is that a few small steps can go a long way in keeping your skin free of wrinkles and other signs of aging. For existing wrinkles and lines, we recommend a good peptide cream.
